OCEAN COUNTY, N.J. – It’s rare to find a 14-year-old with enough talent that he already has years of success under his belt in the entertainment industry. But that’s exactly what Hunter James brings to the table as he prepares to release his debut EP on Jan. 7. James is a fresh and young hip-hop artist out of New Jersey who already has thousands of Twitter followers and tens of thousands of viewers on YouTube thanks to a successful YouTube channel called “Hunter Vlogs TV” that he’s parlayed into a successful career over the past two years. “It’s a channel that does a lot of funny skits and challenges, but I’ve been slowly transitioning into making it more of a music channel,” James said. “I’ve always loved music my whole life, but it wasn’t until I started messing around with some beats in FL Studio one day that I really got hooked. Eventually I started to rap and I really fell in love with that. I listen to rap music because I like the vibe and sounds, but I really love a good rap song that has a story in its lyrics.” James said he recognizes how hard it is for a young person to break into the music industry and have a long-lasting, successful career. But he hopes that he’ll be able to break the mold, so-to-speak, and use his existing fanbase as a foundation for growing that musical career into something far-reaching. “I know I’m young, but I want to show people that no matter how young you are you can create music that people will like,” he said. “I’m trying to inspire other kids and let them know that they don’t have to wait until they’re grown up to do something big. People will take you seriously no matter how young you are if your music is good enough.” James describes his music as a “laid-back, relaxed style with rapping in it.” He produces his own beats and usually uses the instrumentation to inspire the lyrics. His EP, which will be called “HJ,” will feature five songs that will display his variety as an artist. The first single, “Cold World,” features acoustic guitar with “raspy singing combined with rap.” “It’s a song that says no matter what happens in the world – no matter what happens to you every day – it’ll all work out,” James said. “The sun comes around after the rain.” The second single is called “Alone,” and James said it’s a song that starts off sad but builds to a happy resolution. “It’s a song that tells the story of an old man who has never really loved anyone,” James said. “He’s 70 years old and he’s been alone his whole life. He’s trying to win the lottery so that someone will love him, thinking that if he has a fortune they’ll love him. Toward the end a girl finds him without knowledge of any kind of financial fortune, and they fall in love. I try to make all my music tell a story like that, because I want my music to have a meaning and be engaging.” Recently he was able to perform live at The Bitter End to a sold-out show in New York City. It was his first live performance, and the experience is one that he said was indescribable. It was a moment that he knows will live in his memory forever, and which has served as an inspiration to work harder and create more music so that he can re-live many more of those moments over the years. Fans who want to find out more about his music releases or future live performances can follow Hunter James on social media on Twitter and Instagram. AUSTIN, TX – Trae Mitchell – AKA Trae Boy the Prime Minister – never thought he’d have a career in music. In fact, it wasn’t until his best friend introduced him to the music-making side of life in 2000 that he even started exploring with his natural talent as a musician. “Back in the day we would freestyle in the high school lunch room or in the hallways,” he said. “Me and my friend grew up together in neighborhoods located in north Dallas, and it seemed like everyone in those neighborhoods were making music and spreading word around the city.” For the most part their music was just something fun to do together. But when that friend was killed while serving time in a penitentiary, Trae Boy made a commitment to pursue music with a passion and live up to the expectations set by his late friend. Today – 16 years later – Trae Boy continues to pursue music with a passion. His most recent single, “Whole Lotta,” has received quite a bit of air play on radio stations, and fans all over the country are beginning to discover his unique sound and ability. “Whatever you want to do in life, you can do it,” Trae Boy said. “Don’t give up on your dreams. I’m 30 and I still dream and I’m still trying to pursue the dream that me and my best friend would always talk about.” The single is one that Trae Boy describes as a club song that just lets the listener “feel good.” “It’s nothing much more than a song to have a good time with,” he said. “I’m inspired by Three-Six Mafia, and that kind of served as the inspiration for this song. Ultimately it’s just a song to drink and smoke and have fun with.” The single was followed up with a new album called “All Profits,” which Trae Boy released in October of this year. The album features 14 songs, and the release was hosted by DJ Genius out of Atlanta, Georgia. The album features most of his originals, with some features from other hip-hop artists that he’s worked with over the years. Trae Boy operates as part of an indie rap label called 635 Entertainment – based out of Dallas, Texas. He first gained notoriety in 2009 when he was featured on a number of indie mixtapes. In 2010 he was featured on DJ Young Cee’s mixtape “Turfwarz Vol. 4,” which gained him even more exposure nationwide. Over the past five years he has traveled all over the U.S. promoting his music and making a name for himself. Datpiff YouTube Portland, OR – Artist Mic Mar had a unique beginning to his flourishing music career. Tempted by friends to collaborate on a song, the now 25-year-old artist discovered he had a knack for the art of the rhyme at 17-years-old. His competitive spirit, can-do attitude, and innate sense of creativity led him to discover that music could become something more than just a hobby – and instead, be a lifelong career and passion. A big believer in fate and destiny, Mic Mar abides by the philosophy, “Life’s too short to not do what you want to do.” The young artist finds influence in fellow rapper and Pacific Northwest native, Macklemore. The two artists share a zest for the rap game in cities that are heavily saturated with rock and alternative music and a gift for storytelling and seeing meaning in everything. An avid storyteller, Mic Mar’s music is deep, uplifting, and inspirational. His music is a reflection of his perspectives on struggle, which makes his audience vast, as everyone can relate on some level. His “young lit hippy” brand and persona emit vibes of “peace, love and good vibes,” laughs Mar. The imaginative rapper recently debuted his latest video, a song entitled “Good Morning,” on November 23rd, which teases the release of his impending mixtape, Kidz From The Woodz, which hits digital platforms on January 31st, 2017. The song “Good Morning” is, as the artist describes, “an awakening.” An introduction into who the young lit hippy really is, the song is about sharing your truth, which is exactly what Mic Mar is out to do. SoundCloud http://www.younglithippy.com/ Houston, TX – Longtime friends turned business and musical partners Royale King and Young Papi met by happenstance, when Young Papi’s late mother decided he needed positive influences in his life and introduced him to Royale King. The two were fast friends, and though Young Papi was the young age of twelve when they first met, Royale King helped Papi come into his own as an artist and man. Two years ago, friendship gave way to “Kushmerica,” and the two “Kush Bosses” embarked on their own musical journey. “The energy we bring is just ridiculous – The more songs we were doing, the more people were like referring to us as the new red man and method man,” explains Royale. Adds Papi, “One show was so crazy, the crowd literally tore our shirts off us.” Their sound is an eclectic mix of 90’s rap with a modern spin, which comes organically from their age difference. “You have the more mature older brother, that will get that mature crowd, and then you’ve got the younger brother that’s a little wild and just goes and does his thing,” Their newest project, an album entitled Election Year, is distinctive and authentic. Chalk full of songs that speak to real life, Royale King describes the songwriting as “based in reality,” and “street perspective, because that’s the place we were raised in.” The concept behind Election Year (ironically released on 4/20, as an homage to their “Kushmerica” brand) was to shed light on the political disparity over the use of marijuana in America. “Right now, there are 23 states that allow recreational marijuana use. Part of our campaign is to get all 50 states to legalize, and to show how it helps,” the duo explains. In addition to the Mary Jane-infused lyrics, listeners can expect to hear other themes and stories, including the lamenting of poverty and the struggles of the streets. “It doesn’t sound like anything that’s out right now,” says Royale, “and that’s refreshing. It’s very original.” Instagram: @kushmerica Twitter: @Kushmericans Youtube Google Play https://play.google.com/store/music/album?id=Blavmg7pwaxx2e7zckravafobsq&tid=song-Tsoi3ux6dv6qbgzrau3btvtsat4&hl=en_GB Spotify https://open.spotify.com/artist/5Z3ZSxknhyeFAuwle20yF9 Twitter @Adamjlss Facebook @adamjlss1 website Adamjlss.com CLEVELAND, OH – Every day of Dawud Sami’s seven years of incarceration were filled, in one way or another, with music. To hear him tell it, the very act of creating raps was the thing that helped him keep his sanity and get through the overwhelming experience of being in prison. And once he was released from prison, he knew that he wanted to show the world a new man – a man whose lyrics and rhymes could inspire others to pick themselves up after life had knocked them down. And so the rapper GP was born. “That’s how I came up with the Life After 7 Project,” he said. “It’s a series of volumes of music that I’m going to release year after year, and they’ll all revolve around the idea of life after death. Some of it will be songs reenacting times from being incarcerated for those seven years. Some of it will be about what transpired prior to those seven years to get me to that spot. But all of it will deal with what’s going on after those seven years – my own personal life after death. Ultimately, this series of volumes will help people move on from situations that seem unbearable and feel like there are no options and no way out.” GP said he knows that a struggle is a struggle, no matter what walk of life someone comes from. And he wants his music to nod to the fact that everyone will experience struggles at some point in their lives and that if he can pull up out of his extreme struggles, then others can do the same. “Music, for me, changed my decision making,” GP said. “I know my music can do the same thing for other people. I think people can hear my music and realize that the struggles they have really aren’t that bad. And even if they are that bad, hopefully they can hear my music and know that they can live that day and take one step forward because there’s always hope. That’s what I want my music to be – I want it to be a message.” Some of his mixtapes are already available for fans to listen to on Livemixtapes.com. The second volume of the “Life After 7” series is scheduled to drop on that website sometime before the end of the year. Like the first volume – which was hosted by DJ Kayslay – this volume will also be hosted by a notorious DJ in BWA Rhymes. Fans who want to keep up to date on future music releases or live performances – such as his headline act on Jan. 10 in Memphis – can follow him on Instagram under the handle @officiallygp. Music has always been embedded in his soul, having been encouraged by his brother to take a stab at the craft. However, Bombface’s gift was not set free until the artist was granted parole following a nearly eight year long incarceration. His release from prison was an awakening, and sparked a greed for something more. Bombface decided it was “now or never,” and put the “pedal to the medal” on his music career. Full of wordplay and wit, Bombface’s music is what the artist describes as “lyrically entertaining, with a rhythm and groove feel.” The artist, inspired by classic musicians that span across R&B and rap (like the iconic Michael Jackson, for example), delivers a product that takes the listener to the days of clever, witty rap, reminiscent of the rap greats of the 80’s and 90s. His latest project, an album entitled Player With a Pistol is a completely self-made endeavor, from its clever lyrics right down to the skilled production quality. Released November 25th, the album is edgy, and has a “street feel.” The son of a single father, and a self-made man, Bombface is determined to be the best. Mediocrity is his greatest worry, and he won’t settle for anything less than success. Tenacious and passionate, Bombface is out to “exercise excellence every chance I get.” The rapper’s lyrics are unshakeable, and full of swag for every listener. SoundCloud Reverb Nation YouTube DatPiff LYNN, MA. – It’s appropriate for a musician who loves jazz music – especially the saxophone – to adopt the name Jasz as his stage name. But when that musician is a hip-hop artist whose rhymes are making waves in the rap community, the name stands out. And that’s exactly what Jasz hopes his music will do over the next year as he begins to release a series of singles he’s been working on for the past three years. “I have a lot of different sounds,” Jasz said. “Sometimes I have a trap sound, but sometimes I’m really jazzy and create poetic music. Sometimes I’m soulful, and sometimes I have a really 90s, hip-hop sound. It’s all me and it’s all original, and I hope that these singles will show different sides of me. I know who I am, but the music I put out exemplifies what I mean or feel for that moment. Everything I make a song about has been inspired by something in my life – different sides of me with different situations and different feelings. I think everybody is that way – you can feel different ways in your life, and that’s OK. You’re allowed to feel different ways, because that’s when you know authenticity is there.” The first single from Jasz is called “Rambo,” and it was released earlier in November to rave reviews. Jasz said it’s a fun, upbeat song that he chose to release first because it’s something he knows fans will enjoy and want to listen to again and again. His next single, “Wake Up”, as well as the video for it were released at the end of November. The song is different from Rambo both in vibe and lyrics. He describes it as a more thought-provoking song with a message that he hopes a lot of fans will be able to relate to. “It’s a song that came about from me realizing that I don’t have time to be dealing with negative people in my life,” Jasz said. “Whether that’s women or friends or anything with high drama or negativity. I don’t have or energy to invest in negativity, or to fix any bad situations or deal with any of that drama. Every second wasted is a dollar wasted or an opportunity wasted.” Jasz went on to say that most of his songs will have some sort of positive outlook on his life situations because he doesn’t want to dwell on the negative side of life. Though he’s experienced his share of difficult times over the years, he chose to take a different path and pursued an education – eventually graduating from college with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. “No matter what you’re going through, you don’t have to react the same way most people do,” Jasz said. “If you’re surrounded by drugs, you don’t have to be a drug dealer. Be creative. I can hang with drug dealers, or nerds, or whomever because I’m willing to just be myself. In this world you’re going to run into people who hate you and people who like you, and you just have to be honest and people are going to respect that, and if they don’t then they aren’t real. For me, I chose education, because education is cool. It’s never been cool to be stupid. And I think that’s what allows my music to be different and appeal to everybody. ‘Rambo’ is a fun song, but it’s creative. Everything I saw I try to make it creative. There’s a reason behind what I do, and I hope I make it clear to people through my lyrics and rhymes why I’m doing those things.” Fans who want to learn more about Jasz and his music can visit his website at SlumDogMusic.com, or check out his music videos on his YouTube page. Fans can also follow him on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to stay tuned for future singles releases and live performances. |
