Hoodrich Radio had a recent SuperStar Check In from inspirational artist, Lecrae! The Grammy award winner considers his music still hip-hop, not just gospel.
Lecrae has been an artist for a while, even dating back to the battle rap days. He was into a lot back then, but something happened when he was 19 years old that gave him an epiphany after some thought. “One of my friends was in Juvie. I asked him why he was in there and he said that it was because his dad was like that. Always in and out of prison or in trouble in the streets. Yet when he went back home and talked to his brother who was in college, he asked him why he decided to go to college and he responded that it was because he didn't want to be like his father.” This was enough to make Lecrae sit back and decide what he wanted to do with the rest of his life. He picked music but with a twist that would empower others to make that same positive choice with their lives. When asked if he would ever make a song with like a Yo Gotti or 21 Savage, he implied that he would have no problem. He is sure that they would have the same respect and understand that his craft is his, and they could put a twist on it. The people he worked with had the same feeling about his most recent single with Ty Dolla $ign, “Blessing” but the track is really dope and has a vibe like none other! Though the single is out Lecrae did not release an album title but it will be released in early Summer 2017 with people like Killer Mike and Cyhi The Prince in on production. More than anything, the information he was giving about knowledge and growth were impacting. Lecrae had some powerful messages to drop specifically on the youth, but anyone could learn from them… “Stop comparing yourself to everybody else. Yu need to compare yourself to your own limits because that's what…” You thought that was life changing? Go watch the good stuff on DJ Scream Youtube below!
